Do you want to learn how to make a pattern repeat for example, fabric, wallpaper or fashion? Then this is the course for you. Through various analog methods, I give you the understanding of how to create patterns that are seamless repeatable.

In the course, I also show how I digitize my designs for printing, but mainly we use gouache, paper, scissors and a ruler. The basis of beautiful and well- processed patterns lies in the craftsmanship!

With 24 years of experience in drawing patterns for fabric and wallpaper, I guide you to your own creation of patterns. More than twohundred Swedish speaking people have all ready taken this class and its a great joy to finally offer it in English. Tuesdays at 6pm, starting on January the 21th, I invite you to a Live Broadcast on a closed Insta account where I show the week’s exercise and also answer questions that may arise along the way.

The course is 6 weeks long and expect that you need to spend about 3 hours/week
in your own work. Of course you can work with the tasks more than that. It’s easy to get stuck in the pattern world!

COURSE CONTENT

• Different methods of creating patterns through analog methods such as post-it notes, folding paper, the puzzle technique.

• Straight repeat, half dropped repeat, what is it and when is it best to use?

• How can you build a pattern? Layout and content.

• Different types of layout, or as I call it pattern “skeleton”, winding, medallion, surface, mirroring, layer upon layer.

• Collection thinking when you want to build a collection. How can you think?

• What is gouache and how to use it?

• Digitizing of your hand painted pattern, I show how to do it briefly.

COURSE LAYOUT

Starts Tuesday, January 21th. The course runs for 6 weeks, with the last lesson on February 25th.

Every week you will receive a course letter as a pdf by email with one or more tasks to work through. The course letters become a compendium that you can print and save. It is important to download this course letter during the same week.

You get access to a closed Instagram account where every week I broadcast a Live with the week’s lesson. You will have opportunity to ask questions and I will show you how to do it. The Live is saved so you can watch when it suits you best. On the Insta account, tips & tricks are also posted in connection with the weekly task.

MATERIALS YOU MAY NEED IN THE COURSE

• Pencil, eraser, ruler, scissors and tape

• Thin post-it notes and felt-tip pen

• Watercolor paper A4

• Gouache and/or watercolor Brushes for gouache or watercolor.
